The Mobilization Director maintains and builds relationships with the public, local churches, districts, parachurch entities and all missionaries on itineration. The director also oversees the production of missions education and information materials and directs missions promotional events conducted throughout the United States.
The Itineration department tracks progress of candidate and veteran missionaries. They also provide training for candidate missionaries and assist with final clearance procedures. This department participates in district and regional missions leadership seminars and partners with district missions directors in promotion of missions and missionaries.
As director of AGWM Mobilization, Jeff Hartensveld is responsible for assisting missionaries in raising their budgets and helping them reach the fields of their calling. He also works in partnership with district missions leaders to help missionaries communicate their vision to local churches that will support them in prayer and finances.
Jeff grew up in Wayne, New Jersey. He received Christ as his Savior at age 15 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, his home church. The following year he was baptized in the Holy Spirit. From that point forward, he never considered any other pursuit in life than serving as a missionary.
After high school Jeff enrolled at Valley Forge Christian College. While in college he met his wife, Liz, who also sensed a call to missions as a teenager. The couple married in 1987.
To gain ministry experience, Jeff served as associate pastor at an Assemblies of God church in Glenolden, Pennsylvania. In 1989, the Hartensvelds were approved as missionaries to Indonesia, and they arrived on the field in September 1990.
The Hartensvelds spent a year in language school to learn Bahasa Indonesian. During the remainder of their first term they lived in Malang, where they taught in the Bible school and ministered in church planting and child evangelism. During this time, Jeff also learned basic communication in Javanese.
Soon after their second term began, the family moved to Surabaya, where they planted International Christian Assembly. The church has grown to 1,200 in attendance and maintains a strong missions focus. Ministries of the church include outreaches at a garbage dump and an orphanage.
When a massive earthquake and tsunami struck Indonesia in 2004, Jeff assisted the international relief effort. For two years he organized outreach teams to the hardest hit areas, and the work they accomplished continue to make both a physical and spiritual difference for struggling communities.
In 2012, after 23 years in Indonesia, Jeff was named director of AGWM Mobilization.
Jeff has a bachelor’s degree in Bible with a missions emphasis from Valley Forge Christian College in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in biblical literature from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri. He and Liz have three daughters: Leah, Kelly and Rebekah.
